SKYLIGHTS TYPES

Our company supplies customers with skylights from two different manufacturers - SUNPIPE® (UK) and ODL (USA). For that reason we are able to offer our customers the widest variety  of types and diameters in the Czech market. We can offer the most suitable type for every customer!

Regarding projection, skylight´s diameter is the most significant parameter affecting light output.

Skylight´s orientation on the roof is the second most important factor influencing the efficiency. It is important to install the skylight on the most illuminated side of the roof - south is the best.

 

SUNPIPE SKYLIGHTS

The SUNPIPE is a revolutionary new way to pipe natural daylight from your rooftop into your home - to brighten areas from dawn to dusk where daylight from windows cannot reach.

SUNPIPE is energy free, super reflective tube even extends through adjustable bends and has an internal mirror finish that intensifies and reflects natural daylight delivering free outdoor light to a room or area below - where the light is evenly diffused by a translucent ceiling fixture.

  • No structural alterations required, easily fits between joists and rafters.
  • No maintenance required and will not leak.
  • Top dome is self-cleaning due to its shape and eliminates condensation problems.
  • All SUNPIPE systems are guaranteed for 10 years against faulty manufacture.
  • Few fixings are required, normal single fixing at base of system.
  • Joints are sealed using aluminium tape.
  • Can normally be installed in two or three hours.

Sunlight is piped down into the desired room by means of silver coated aluminium pipes with a mirrored surface internally. At ceiling level, the diffuser has the ability to distribute the light in every direction, giving an even spread of light throughout the room.

There is virtually no limit to the length of SUNPIPE or number of bends that can be used and the SUNPIPE can twist and turn easily to take natural light to exactly where you want it.

 

SUNPIPE Skylights - Basic Information 

Skylights SUNPIPE are supplied in two basic kits:

a. For PITCHED roof - 1.5 m long standard kit, incl. 1 piece of the 0 - 30°adjustable elbow and 2 pcs

of 61 cm long piping.

b. For FLAT roof - 0.6 m long standard kit, incl. 61 cm long piping only. DOES NOT INCLUDE ADJ. ELBOW!

You can add 61 cm long piping to the both types of the kits.

Adjustable elbows of SUNPIPE skylight can be provided in two finishes:

  • 30° two-segment  elbow,
  • 45° three-segmet  elbow.

30° adjustable elbow is supplied in the basic standard kit for pitched roof. That is enough for  most  installations on the pitched roof. A SUNPIPE can contain a number of elbows. However,  more elbows in the system more overall light will diminish. If many elbows are required, it may be necessary to use a larger SUNPIPE diameter  to bring in more light initially.

 

It is necessary to order special base for installation on the tiled roof or atypical metal sheet roof.

Losses in the system of SUNPIPE skylights

A SUNPIPE can be almost any length that you wish, but loses 6% of light for every metre of SUNPIPE. For very long SUNPIPE, a larger diameter should be used. For smaller sizes, the total effective recommended maximum length is 8m, and up to 20m for larger sizes of 450mm and 530mm. There is a 12% light reduction for every 30° elbow used.

There is 2% reflection loss only, i.e. system efficiency is incredible 98%!!!

 

Maintenance

Due to the shape of the Diamond dome, the SUNPIPE is self-cleaning, since rainwater washes off any dust or dirt and there are no crevices for dirt to collect. The ceiling diffuser fits snugly into the base of the ceiling diffuser to prevent dust or dirt entering the system and as a result the interior mirror finish surface never requires any maintenance. Furthermore, there are no mechanical or moving parts, there is nothing to break down or go wrong - as opposed to an openable window or skylight.

 

Applications

  • 230mm (9") SUNPIPE is suitable for small areas, shower rooms and similar, ie. to suit an area of approximately 6ft x 9ft.
  • 300mm (12") diameter SUNPIPE is the most popular of all SUNPIPE sizes and will light up an average sized room of approximately 3m x 4m (12ft x 9ft).
  • 450mm (18") diameter SUNPIPE will typically serve an area of 5m x 4.5m (ie. 13ft x 15ft) and is ideal where a 'wow' factor of natural lighting is needed.
  • 530mm (21") diameter SUNPIPE is ideal for galleried halls, indoor swimming pools, and similar larger areas.
  • The 750mm (30") diameter SUNPIPE produces approximately twice as much light as the 530mm diameter system, and is therefore ideally suited to buildings of more than 7m in height.

ODL SKYLIGHTS

ODL Tubular Skylights bring soft, natural daylight into any room in your home - even the small spaces where larger skylights won't fit. Light reflects through the shaft and is spread throughout interior spaces.ODL Tubular Skylight's patented Solar Lens® dome captures the light and reflects low angle light and more ambient light down through the highly reflective tubing. The reflective tubing maximizes light more efficiently than a traditional drywall skylight shaft, or accordion style flexible tube. The diffuser, which looks like a recessed light fixture, then spreads the light evenly throughout the room.

The patented Solar Lens® dome uses reflex optic technology to gather sunlight, even during low light hours, to increase light through the tube.

ODL's unique dual lens glass diffuser softens and spreads light.

Tubular skylights bring soft natural light into the home. 99% of UV rays are absorbed to protect rugs, furniture, and clothes from fading.
Light output will vary by time of day, roof orientation and shaft length. Tubular skylights are not recommended for heavily shaded roofs.

The Solar Lens Dome features our patented Solar Lens® reflex optics molded into the dome. This prismatic surface increases the amount of light directed downward through the tube. While this occurs throughout the day, it is most noticeable when the sun is relatively low in the sky, such as during the morning, late afternoon, or during the winter months.

The ODL Tubular Skylight is designed for leak-free operation when installed properly. Our metal and injection molded roof flashings are one-piece and seamless to eliminate leakage. Roof sealant should be applied generously to the bottom of the flashing. It is also recommended to use roof sealant to seal screw heads on flashing and shingles to flashing. Tubular Skylights meet the ASTM E-331 Water Resistance Standard.

 

ODL Skylights - basic information 

ODL Skylights are supplied in two basic diameters:

SV 10 - tube diameter 255 mm

SV 14 - tube diameter 356 mm

Both types are supplied in the kit with 1.22 m long piping. The kit is universal - suitable for both flat and pitched roof!

The standard kit always includes 2 pcs of 45° adjustable elbow and 1 pc of 51 cm long piping and a  base suitable for flat roofings (shingle, flat metal sheets).

Should you need longer tube than 1.2 m, it is possible to use 51 cm or 122 cm long additional piping. Using long additional piping results in joint elimination, hardness increase and light output loses elimination. For above mentioned reasons, we recommend using long additional piping.

It is necessary to order special base for installation on the tiled roof or atypical metal sheet roof.

 

We provide 10 years long guarantee for the skylights ODL. However, lifetime is the same as lifetime of SUNPIPE skylights!

Maintenance

Unlike traditional skylights, cleaning and repainting is unnecessary.

The shape of the dome and flashing virtually eliminates the gathering of debris, which keeps the dome clean and makes the ODL Tubular Skylight completely maintenance free. All assemblies  and joints have seals to stop bugs and dirt from entering the tube.

If a bug does ever get into the tube, you can remove the diffuser lens by twisting it counter-clockwise.
